[mood |busy]

At Parsons where I teach web design and an "image lab" class the freshman students all have to do research on a subculture of their choice and take photos, do interviews and create a beautifully designed brochure-type of thing -- Anyone interested in helping her? Click here

Want to be in a Music Video? FURSUITERS NEEDED FOR STARDOM [Oct. 21st, 2009|09:12 am]
[Tags|]
[mood | happy]

Hey everyone - its been a long time - I'm still not dead!

A music video director called me asking about furries -- i just got his permission to post about it here to help spread the word - He has this great idea for a music video

The last scene is a huge party where everyone is in a fursuit and where the main character finally finds that she belongs. FOR this they need a bunch of people with fursuits to party - its supposed to look like a totally normal NY apt. party only everyone is in fursuit.

The video is going to shoot in NYC halloween weekend -- sounds like a good reason for a roadtrip you out-of-town people.

email the director if you even might be interested just to get on his list: dylanrmulick@hotmail.com

PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD TO ANYONE in the area - this is a chance to get paid (something not sure how much) to be in a music video, meet a professional director, and generally be in a fake party.

They may put a bunch of my paintings up on the walls behind everyone too-- i would love to see a video with a lot of familiar faces.

its funny how i've kind of turned into an unofficial ambassador to the fandom -- happy to do it... you have no ideas how many times i've started off by saying "forget everything you've seen on TV"..... Anyway this director seems cool and it s for the up-and-coming band, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - and the theme is like everyone is a furry inside - using furriness as a metaphor - i'll let the director tell you about it himself- rather than put any more words in his mouth, but i think ita a good pro-furry pro-acceptance kind of theme.

I am not dead [Jan. 18th, 2009|12:37 pm]
[mood | calm]

I know its been forever since I posted on here - my SL project, Brooklyn is Watching kinda took off and also, and my "day job" building websites has been demanding much more of my time. We're creating a new product, a less expensive, template-driven version of our art gallery content management system, SPECIFIC, which will be called "opening" and we're hoping will be a good thing to bring out during this economic downturn.

I've moved my studio - combined my studio and home now that i'm living in a huge space with my girlfriend in Clinton Hill - my beloved is going to build me a painting rack soon- right now paintings take up about half the space i'm planning on using to actually paint in.

I can't wait to get back to painting both more stuffed animals and doing more fursuit portraits. I have several paintings that are nearly-but-not-quite finished that I need to work on.

I went, last night to an event called "club animals" the only person i knew there was Rapid T Rabbit, he had called me and encouraged me to come. It was kind of strange. More on that later.... I need to read up on other people's journals and see what everyone else is up to.

two portraits underway at once [Dec. 31st, 2007|08:58 am]
[Current Location |brooklyn]
[mood | happy]

Morton Fox said this week might be the only time in the next month he could sit for his portrait so i'm jumping on the opportunity and making a painting of his favorite suit, a husky named chestnut. I JUST got back from being out in kansas seeing my family but it feels good to get back in the studio- and this painting is off to a great start! I'm hoping to get a little more work done on the portrait of foxwell later this week and then try to find a time when he's available to come back for just one more sitting. On the good side, the new early-adopter web site is up and is in a 'soft launch' phase while we add a few features-- check it out and let me know what you think: early-adopter

OMG- unfogged [Oct. 14th, 2007|10:39 pm]
[Current Location |watching robot chicken starwars on the couch]
[mood | amused]

This Post on UNFOGGED,with 108 comments five days after the fact, because i was wondering why so many hits came into my site from this URL. There's a lot of crazy stuff on there making fun of furries in really predictable, and boring ways, but there's also some very funny and clever stuff on there, some totally random stuff about fucking chewbacca (gotta love that). Some people like the paintings, some people hate them... What do you all think about it?

I made some replies on  my blog and linked to it from a comment on unfogged but i doubt any of them will read it.

The funniest thing on the whole thread is someone's garbled   Billy Idol Lyrics in response to the picture (at left) of   Dex Clowning around at the Brooklyn Fursuit Portrait Paint-OFF

Woyro's Warren mentions FPP [Oct. 14th, 2007|07:03 pm]
[Current Location |Girlfriends Apt. in brooklyn]
[mood | happy]
[music |Stargate on TV in background]

Thanks much to [info]55seddel for turning me onto the fact that Woyro's Warren, a furry podcast, mentioned my Fursuit Portrait Project! Very exciting.

Also that employee of the BBC interviewed me and is, I think, going to interview Rapid T. Rabbit about the Project and try to get it on TV-- we'll see if that pans out.

I'm hoping to finish the portrait of Foxwell the Foxcoon the week after furfright- Oh, did i mention, i'm going to furfright?-well i am-- i can't do any painting there but i'll bring my sketch book-- maybe i can get some people to sit for a sketch... anyone interested? Find me this picture shows what i look like!

BBC or current TV [Oct. 8th, 2007|06:37 pm]
there's an employee of the BBC that is interested in interviewing some fursuiters for a story that will run either on BBC TV or on Current TV (maybe-- nothing is certain at this point) - some of you local NYC-area fursuiters who were thinking of sitting for a portrait contact me and let me know if you're interested in being on (maybe)TV...

oh! also-- i've met her and talked to her and she seems cool and is actually friends with some of my friends and i trust that she's going to make this story not like the CSI episode or whatever and give a more full representation of the fandom and not just focus on the most salacious aspects...

BB... we'll seee [Oct. 8th, 2007|01:21 am]
[mood | tired]

Well poor foxwell was not feeling well yesterday so he couldn't come sit for his portrait at Jack the Pelican. Honestly it might be for the best- painting a major portrait like that with people watching was pretty hard. I do well under pressure... but not too much pressure. At a paint-off there's no pressure because its all kind of for fun anyway- but I really want these large portraits to turn out well. The fact that he couldn't come yesterday means that we'll get to finish the portrait at my studio later, which will be more fun for me than painting there under those circumstances would have been anyway. I don't think i'm going to try to do a big portrait like that in a public place again. It was kind of a crazy idea- which was part of why i wanted to do it of course... but sometimes crazy ideas are bad ideas.

Spoke with a woman on the phone today who said she was from the BBC, had seen the article in Time Out, and wanted to do a story about the fursuit portrait project. Then i went over to the gallery of a friend of mine and he said that someone from the BBC had just called him as well... which seems like to weird of a coincidence... doesn't it? Who knows! Hope its Legit and foxwell gets well soon so he can get interviewed by her too....

article in T.O.N.Y. [Oct. 3rd, 2007|10:50 pm]
[Current Location |brooklyn]
[mood | happy]

This article is about me and [info]foxwell in Time Out New York! See the web version here. If you like it, DIGG it here I have a few things to quibble with on this-- They got what i'd said about my paintings backwards-- the stuffed animal paintings were the ones i'd called "anti-conceptual" and they really didn't go into enough detail about what furries are and why fursuiters do what they do. But over all it was a pretty good article, i thought- and i love that they included a big photo of one of my finished paintings. This magazine, although mostly unknown outside of NY, (i think-- have any of y'all non-new yorkers heard of it? --there is a london edition too, in fact it may have started there, i'm not sure) it is VERY widely read in NYC so I'm very excited to be in there.

MORE paint [Sep. 28th, 2007|07:07 pm]
[Current Location |the abbey]

The art supply store is such a dangerous place for me to go... i just dropped $178 on oil paint today- money i really shouldn't spend... but there were so many excellent colors i just couldn't stop myself- williamsburg paint is the worst-its really nice quality, handmade paint... heavenly... so freaking expensive. (sigh) I'm very, very excited to use the new tubes in my painting of foxwell which continues tomorrow at Jack the Pelican-

Also there are new pictures of the Brooklyn Paint-off by my friend Lila-- they are really beautiful- check it out:

AND--- LAST bit of news-- there will be an article coming out in Wed. Time Out New York about the fursuit portrait project they interviewed me and Foxwell and the article sounds like its going to be very fair and balanced-- really looking forward to seeing it... and it will probably mean that the last day of live portrait painting at JTTP - next saturday will get a crazy amount of foot traffic so if any of you local NYC area fursuiters want to come and play with the hipster crowd some more feel free-- the folks that came to the paint-off had a good time.
